Centro
The beauty of the coast and the authenticity of the mountains

The Centro is the land of magic and differences. You can enjoy a morning on the beach and ride into the mountains in the afternoon. Along the coast, the region upholds the traditions of a seafaring people, the salt flats, colourful fishing boats and fisheries. In the mountains, the people cling to their ancestral culture, timeless traditions in rustic stone-walled villages, in the valleys and the fresh air of their forests. Towns and cities are spaces of history and friendship. The City of Coimbra, a World Heritage Property, has one of the oldest universities in Europe and its students wear the traditional black capes of their class. The wines from the Bairrada and Dão winemaking regions and local specialties such as cheese and roast suckling pig are some of the most famous in Portugal.
